Mexican muralist José Clemente Orozco created impressive, realistic paintings. A product of the Mexican Revolution, he overcame poverty and eventually traveled to the United States and Europe to paint frescos for major institutions. A man of unparalleled vision, as well as striking contradiction, he died of heart failure at age 65.
An homage to the Sleepy Lagoon trial that became a major Chicano injustice in LA. Located near the actual location of the Sleepy Lagoon Lake in Maywood CA.
Originally painted in 1993 in Boyle Heights this mural depicted the Mexican and American flags as curtains symbolic to the identity of the Chicano heritage as the Aztec opened the curtain to reveal its rich Cultural history. Mural was removed circa 1998
